Adopt a coral at the MERC Gaya Island

On the Gaya Island there’s the MERC, Marine Ecology Research Centre, a unique structure dedicated to the reactivation of the Great Barrier Reef and to the protection of the precious marine heritage. Particularly it deals with seven species of giant Tridacna, the biggest bivalve mollusk, whose shell can reach one meter and a half of length. With the visit, snorkeling or diving you will help increasing the number of corals, that will attract a largest fish stocks, the basis of the island inhabitants’ diet.
