Sri Lanka takes its name from the Sanskrit word Lamka which means "resplendent island". The country has numerous archaeological sites, many of which are important Buddhist places of worship that are still today a place of pilgrimage. A journey through ancient capitals and sacred caves, mountain resorts, reminiscent of Victorian England, the long beaches where turtles come to lay their eggs, including the Buddhist monasteries and intricate jungles.
