Amanjena Resort 5*

Where:
Marrakech

Lying within an oasis of palm and olive trees close to the ancient city of Marrakech, the resort lies adjacent to the 27-hole Amelkis Championship Golf Course. Amanjena means 'peaceful paradise' and reflects the vision of monumental Moorish palace where zen-like calm reigns. Epic is the only word to describe the extraordinary design of the building, which is modelled on Ahmed al-Mansour’s now ruined palace, el-Badi (the Incomparable). Amanjena’s 18 rose-toned Pavilions, six Pavilions Bassin, eight Pavilions Piscine, six two-storey Maisons and the two-bedroom Maison Jardin and Al-Hamra Maison all radiate from the ancient bassin (irrigation pool) at the heart. The main restaurant is a sort of mini-riad amid a forest of honey-coloured marble columns. Here, there's a dual Italian and Moroccan menu. For something lighter Nama, the Japanese restaurant, focuses on izakaya-style sharing plates and seared fish and meat from the robata grill. There’s also a full-service spa, with its truly Moroccan hammam and essential-oil massages, a swimming pool, an indoor gym, two floodlit clay tennis courts, a two-storey library and an enormous boutique stocked with locally crafted products.
