Begin the experience with a visit to the Traditional Arts and Ethnology centre of Laos, guided by one of the centre’s founding members. Enjoy an insightful presentation followed by a Q&A and exclusive exhibit of ethnic village artifacts. Wrap up the experience with an interactive lesson on Lao weaving at Ock Pop Tok. This fascinating, 60-minute presentation and question-and-answer session provides an excellent background on Lao’ ethnic communities, their history and their cultural practices, including livelihoods and crafts. This informative experience is an opportunity to learn about lifestyles in ethnic villages with unique artifacts on display from TAEC’s collection that is not accessible to the general public. Ock Pop Tok is an organization that seeks to preserve traditional weaving techniques and promote Lao textiles. One of their local experts will lead a short tour, introducing the process of silk weaving from the initial stages of creating the dyes to the final process of loom weaving.
